| November 18, 2007 - The
traditional 172 foot tall lighted Christmas tree can be seen
from the interstate like a beacon, guiding holiday tourists,
as well as locals, to the Festival of Light. This is the 15th
year the Festival has drawn people to our town, promising
and delivering a holiday site like no other in the area. It
takes more than 1200 volunteers to construct over 100
displays and string roughly 3.5 million lights every year
through Shannon Spring Park. And this year promises to be
better than ever. New this year, the Festival unveils a
computerized light show.
|
|
|
|
The new show, isn’t just blinking
lights set to music. Computer technicians spent hundreds of
hours creating what the Festival is calling a “masterpiece
that joins exhilarating Christmas music with a magnificent
routine of choreographed dancing lights”.

There are so many details that are missed when
driving through the park that walking the pathways and through the
bridge or riding in a horse drawn carriage are the ways to go.
Everywhere you look there are sights to awe and amaze people of
all ages. When you are done with the walking tour, be sure to
visit the gift shop and concession stand for a cider and cinnamon
roll.
|
|
The park is illuminated nightly November 20th
thru December 31st from 6pm to 11 pm. Admission is free
but donations are greatly appreciated.

Other events of interest:
|
|
Mandeville Vista Community is
located just a short distance from the park, beginning at Maple
Lane and 16th Street in Chickasha. Homeowners here have
taken great pride in transforming their neighborhood into a Winter
Wonderland for the past 20 years. Yards twinkle with lights, while
animated scenes dance to holiday music. A extraordinary
neighborhood for families to walk and enjoy the holiday sights.
|
|
The annual Old Fashioned Christmas
Parade will make its way thru the downtown streets the
evening of Thursday, December 6, starting at 7 pm. Lighted floats,
marching bands and of course Santa are just a few of the sights to
enjoy.
|
|
While at the parade, be sure to check out
the Avenue of Angels Quilt Exhibit. 100’s of
quilts will be on display with downtown merchants who have their
storefronts and windows decorated for the season.
