| Cranston, Rhode Island Terminal to Close? |
| Whole lot of alleged moving around in Rhode Island |
| From the RD News Desk |
|
It has been said, New Penn, owned by Roadway, which
in turned was bought out by Yellow, was just informed
yesterday (March 23rd), that the Cranston, Rhode Island terminal will
be closed this June, and that New Penn
operations will be run out of the former USF
Red Star terminal in Cumberland, Rhode Island
starting in June. This terminal is presently
vacant, and is owned by Yellow since they purchased USF.
|
|
This former USF Red Star terminal is located approximately
16 miles North of the present New Penn
terminal in Cranston. It is a 92 door terminal, constructed in
1996, compared to New Penn's present 52 door terminal, constructed in
1990.
|
|
The word is that Roadway Express, presently with a
terminal in Lincoln, Rhode Island, (which is
approximately half way between Cranston and
Cumberland), is going to vacate that
location and move into the New Penn terminal in Cranston when New Penn
moves to Cumberland.
