YRC's North American Transportation
From the RD News Desk
With conspiracy theories abounding over ideas of globalism and one world government, "North American Transportation" appears from YRC Worldwide.
In the transportation industry, their are leaders and their are followers. Zollars and his crew at YRCW have their sights set for deep down range and are way out front of the non union carriers. What is it they see?
The Canadian Intelligent Super Corridor (CISCOR), which is a national east-west transportation corridor from Vancouver and Prince Rupert to Montreal and Halifax. North Americas Super Corridor (NASCO), Canada America Mexico Corridor (CANAMEX) and River of Trade Corridor Coalition (ROTCC). Like it or not, this is the future of the transportation industry.
The challenge for Zollars in order to meet this future is to be able to cut some fat from his top heavy organizations, get positioned for a downward economy and be prepared to service all facets of the transportation future, while creating more Teamster jobs. Below are a few recent events putting things in motion.
On June 26, 2007, Meridian IQ, a wholly owned subsidiary of YRC Worldwide Inc., announced that it had changed its name to YRC Logistics to better reflect the company’s expertise in logistics and its relationship to YRC Worldwide.  YRC Logistics is the global logistics services of the YRC Worldwide companies.
YRC Worldwide announced October 25th that Mike Smid had been named President of North American Transportation. In this newly created role, Smid is responsible for the asset-based operating companies of YRC Worldwide, (Yellow, Roadway, the USF companies and New Penn). Smid continues to report to Bill Zollars, Chairman, President and CEO of YRC Worldwide. Smid has served as President of YRC National Transportation since its formation in January 2007 and was previously President of Roadway. Jim Staley, President of YRC Regional Transportation, announced his retirement effective December 31, 2007.
Zollars stated: "These changes will streamline our management structure and enable significant opportunities to enhance profitability across the corporation. We are targeting $100 million over the next six months through the combination of enhanced operating performance, the elimination of redundant activities and other cost reductions".
On December 13th, 2007, The International Brotherhood of Teamsters and TMI/YRC Worldwide reached a tentative agreement on a new National Master Freight Agreement (NMFA) that protects workers’ jobs and benefits and allows the unionized companies a chance to better compete against the non-unionized freight companies.
On December 19th, 2007, Mike Naatz was appointed Chief Integration Officer of "North American Transportation". Naatz's role is to lead the effort to further streamline operations, improve efficiency and enhance service capabilities.
Zollars is earning his keep by preparing for the big downward turn. YRCW is still looking at earning 2.40 for 2008. What other major transportation outfit is filling the sandbags before the flood? Nada...
On Dec 19: YRC Worldwide Inc. (YRCW) closed at $17.49.
